At 11 months your dragon should be eating large crickets. Look at the space between the reptiles eyes; that’s how large a prey item they should be eating. Any bigger, when eaten, can cause bowel obstruction, chokeing, or paralysis. Cricket feedings for a subadult, like yours, should only be once a day. I usually feed about 1 cricket per inch of body length, not including tail. Of course, this is just a general guide, a few more than that doesn’t hurt, just don’t over do it.

See this site for a great veggie list: http://www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htm This food chart tells you everything about proper veggies to feed. Even though it’s a site gear towards iguanas, the veggie info is still good for any reptile that can eat them. Use staple greens in every feeding (collard greens, endive, watercress, escarole, etc.) otherwise, variety is key, so mix it up often.

I usually feed one or the other; bugs or veggies, not both at the same time. I don’t want them to fill up on one and not eat the other. Your dragon should have a diet that is 50/50 veggie and bug, as it should be about half size. When it’s full grown at about 2 years old, the diet should shift to 80% veggie and 20% bug.

How much should a 2 year old bearded dragon weigh?

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Question by Marta D.: How much should a 2 year old bearded dragon weigh?

I don’t want to think that my dragon is too fat or being underfed. She’s eating normally and everything. I just want to make sure the food I’m feeding her isn’t full of fat.

Hi! It all depends on what foods you are feeding. Her diet should be at least half vegetation, i.e. dandelion, mustard, turnip, and edible flowers. For protein you should only offer gutloaded crickets, superworms, silkworms, roaches, grasshoppers. Do not feed mice unless she is a breeder. The mice are very fatty and they will eventually burn out her liver. Make sure you offer a calcium and multivitamin 3 times per week. Feed vweggies every day and protein every other day. With this diet she should not be overweight. If you are concerned w/ her weight you should seek a veterinary care.

Depending on the temp in your home it can live up to 2 months but that is not recommended. They are dessert animals and need heat.
