What should a new Dungeons and Dragons player buy?

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Question by Tori: What should a new Dungeons and Dragons player buy?

I’m really interested in tabletop roleplaying games, and I’d love to try Dungeons and Dragons. But there are so many rule books and “flavor” books and different editions of each that it’s hard to know what to get (not to mention they’re quite expensive). So what should a completely new player buy to get started? What’s necessary to play the game?

Every D&D player needs a set of dice, a miniature to represent your character on the map, and access to a player’s handbook (also known as PHB). Everything else is optional. In fact, having your own dice is also optional if someone doesn’t mind sharing theirs.

How do you decorate a cute baby nursery in a Dungeons and Dragons theme?

Question by Angela Avalon: How do you decorate a cute baby nursery in a Dungeons and Dragons theme?

Think cutesy like baby dragons and cartoon knights. I’m wanting some authentic expert opinion from real gamers.

Plush monsters are easy to find, and plastic weapons/armor/shields could be hung on the walls out of the baby’s reach. You might be able to find or make a mobile with little monsters, too. You could put a knight/princess canopy over the crib or changing table. A castle theme could work for either boys or girls.

I can’t think of much else that would be safe around an infant/toddler. Good luck!

Whats a good starter RPG for new players other than Dungeons and Dragons?

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Question by Garrett M: Whats a good starter RPG for new players other than Dungeons and Dragons?

I am about to start a game with two new players and was planning a Dungeons and Dragons game, however I abhor the new 4.0 mechanics and feel it would be counter productive to teach them legacy game mechanics. Are there any other games currently out that are well suited for new players?

Question by RandomUser: Where can i find player made 4th edition dungeons and dragons adventures?

I have 4th edition dungeon and dragons books, but no quests and the quests online for 4th ed are way too expensive. Player made quests are a good legal alternative and i would like to know where i can find some (i would like 4th edition if possible).

Join the RPGA (at the WotC site) and download Living Forgotten Realms adventures. There are several new ones coming out every month and you can probably adapt them to your own campain without a lot of trouble.

Question by Nick Friggin’: Which dungeons and dragons booster pack would you recommend?

I’m not sure if anyone can help me with this, but of all the different Dungeons and Dragons booster sets, which would you recommend purchasing to get the most human figures? Which would you recommend for the most undead? Can anyone give me a list of the most common figures in the different sets?

with the huge array of miniatures out there that is a tough ? to answer

head to your local hobby shop and look through their selection of miniatures
find those sets that best suit your needs or buy the individual figures
for any distinctive persona in your campaign

the nice thing about D&D is you can use any figure that is
“swords and sorcery” based

Question by Megan: What is the maximum amount of people you can have in a dungeons and dragons game?

alright, so i’m getting a little paranoid because i’m just learning how to play dungeons and dragons and i’ve got about 15 people wanting to play as well, so how many people should i get to play? is there some kind of limit or at least a suggested limit to keep the difficulty to a minimum?

Best answer:

Answer by Steven D
When it first came ut we limited out games to 6. That way we could have a dungeon master and 5 to keep it interesting. More than that and there’s to much to keep track of!

Q&A: Why do people think Dungeons and Dragons is evil?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Question by ron the freak: Why do people think Dungeons and Dragons is evil?

Dungeons and Dragons (or D&D as we who play it refer to it) is always seen as evil, but most stories played are good. These “campainges” are often run for months and usually become more engrosing than even the newest video games. Is it the references to magic or fictional deities (which many campainges remove). Is it some weird thing where most of the religions think that they need to attack anything that doesn’t conform to their standards. It is the fredom in the gameplay that draws so many people. I’ve been playing for a couple of months now and have found that the only way a campainge can be evil is if the one running it, called the Dungeon Master or DM for short, wills it so. Please tell me what you think.

I played for at least a couple of years. I think it is what you make it. I agree that most of it brings out good things. However, it has a dark component that can get out of hand if the wrong people get in the mix. If you are just in it for fun, keep it light. Have a reality check every now and then. Don’t mix with people that aren’t friends. Most of all, if you don’t appreciate fantasy literature and art, leave it alone.
