Q&A: How to take care of a bearded dragon?
Question by Letterbomb: How to take care of a bearded dragon?
I’m planning to get a bearded dragon soon! ![]()
what kind of food, housing, care do bearded dragons require?
Any info at all would be appreciated.
I’ve read many care-sheets, but is there anything else I may need to know?
Also: Do male and female dragons act differently? Is one more calm than the other?

Glass cage with a screen lid with one hot (75-85) and one cool end (70). Newspaper is the easiest substrate, it comes everyday and is in sections, so you can talk one mess out at a time! Fake plants are okay and on the cool end you should have a 10.0 UVB bulb for proper nutrients and a 75-100 watt basking spot lamp with a ceramic fixture so it does not over heat. Crickets should be the main diet, meal/wax worms as a treat, NOT as a regular meal as it is unhealthy. Lettuce is okay but the best is like dinosaur (Tuscan) kale as it is packed with nutrients. Heat rocks give belly burns, make a hide cave/box. Female are calmer, if you want to breed read up on breeding articles. Hope this helps!

Please rely more on the care sheets that breeders provide than what a pet store employee might tell you. Especially regarding lighting and temps. The age of the dragon also dictates how hot the “hot” side should be. Roughly 105-110 for babies and juvies and 95-100 for adults.
Males and females don’t act differently. In general, each dragon is unique. Some of my boys are lap dragons and some are spazzes, same for the girls.

1) ya need to google and do lots of research.
2) ya need a 40 gallon breeder or larger
3) ya need a uv light (repti-sun 10 tube) is the best out. A lot of others are unstable. http://Www.petmountain.com is the cheapest place to get it.
4) ya need a basking light. A common bright white household bulb ( old school) none of this energy efficient stuff. Play with the wattage until you get the basking area in the zone needed. 95 to 105 fir adults. 100 to 105 for a juvenile. 105 to 108 for a baby.
5) your gunna need calcium w/ d3. 2x a week for an adult, 5x for a juvie or baby.
fresh veggies
6) your gunna need a good repti vitamin 2x a week for any size.
7) live feeders
9) a hide would be good on the cool end.
10) tile or carpet substrate would be best. Anything loose could be ingested and cause impaction. May not happen to your dragon, but why take the chance?
11) decor, however ya wanna decorate.
12) lots of patiance and lots of love
