How much does a bearded dragon cost to take care of yearly?
Question by Alex M: How much does a bearded dragon cost to take care of yearly?
I have about 225$ and want a bearded dragon and was wondereing how much the initial startup is and how much it is after that. I was also wondering why my parents won’t let me get one if I pay for it, and all it’s needs and care for it daily.

bierdies can get quite expensive. lets see if u get one for 50 dollars, and then
get a tank that is twenty gallons thats prolly another forty and then u have to get some things for the tank to have inside for him
sand – 15
hides -5 – 30
heat lamp adn bulb – 20
and then after that u need to keep him on crickets and or greens. they cost very littel per time but can get quite expensve over time.
so initial setup would likely cost you anywhere from like 5 to teh full amount u have lol.
likely ur parents want u to realize what u are getting into and is why whey are tellin u u must pay for it all. they do make great pets tho, and can bring a lot of happieness and if i had 225 saved up id definately get one of my own. i only have a uromastyx and some others but the bierdies are next on my list.

Its quite a bit yearly, A baby bearded its self is around 80 dollars. They grow fast and eat alot, you would need at least a 30 breeder tank, a uvb light, and heat light, and its not good to use sand for dragons, theyer skin can get permantly stained and they could eat it and get impacted and die from it. So I would use newspaper or a reptile carpet from a pet store. as babys they need alot of protein such as crickets, mealworms, wax worms, and the need calcium its also good to get them started on eating vegetables such as sqaush, collad greens, exc. (excuse my spelling) because as they reach adult hood they need mostly veggies. I adivise you find good sites to look up on them
they may have good estiments, and advice. I own one myself and hes quite the eater its gets expensive im sorry to sat :/

After paying $80 – $110 it depends on how well you want it to be. unless you make your own cage you could spend $200 just for a cage with no lights etc. then you need a UV light (should be changed every year) a heat light, a timer would also a good (only $10-$20) you need sand or grass, hide logs water bowl, a can of top of decent as well plus cleaning products, if you use sand it would need to be changed every time you clean the cage. But that’s just to start you still need food. don’t forget to see if you can get food in your town. ( i live 2 hours from a city but cant get live food. If this is your case to its extra for the drive to the city each week)

you are going to need much more money to get started! i neede like $300-$400! it depends on how much your pet shop is. if the BD is like $50 then great. mine was $110. also the tank can cost a lot. here is a check list: (note: prices are from my local pet shop, so you can find cheaper)
The lizard = 100-130$
Terrarium/Tank = 180-280$ (46 gallon tank with screen top)
UV Basking Light = 10- 40$ (10.0 is good)
Heating Light 100wt = 10-30$ (6-8inch from BD’s back)
Flooring = 15-20$ per play sand bag
Food/Bugs = ยข25per bug – $5 a box (you may be paying $10 a week!)
Food/Water bowls = 15$
Wood/Rocks = Back yard(note: soak in 10% bleach-90%water or bake in oven at 300 degrees for 15-20min should be good)
hope that helps good luck with it if you get one!!!!
e-mail me your e-mail and i can send you a care sheet my friend sent me when i got a BD. if you want to that is.
